While the City of Fayetteville has seen meaningful progress in recent years, the City fell behind after decades of neglect and a lack of investment in its future. Despite recent gains, Cumberland County is considered the 20th most economically distressed county in North Carolina, a ranking that considers average unemployment rate, median household income, percentage growth in population and the adjusted property tax base per capita and the Fayetteville metro area has some of the most intractable generational poverty in the country.
Despite its challenges, the City of Fayetteville now has a similarly historic opportunity to invest in its future by taking advantage of an innovative partnership that will unlock the value of their exceptionally run municipal utility to benefit the City of Fayetteville and its residents.

We’ve seen the gains made by other communities across North Carolina. Apple plans to invest $1 billion in North Carolina to establish a new campus in Research Triangle Park with thousands of high paying jobs. New Hanover County is reaping the benefits of selling its county-owned hospital system to Novant — a deal that will put $1.25 billion into a new community foundation to support a variety of community needs, including social equity, community safety, and community development.
